Pipe Fittings

Pipe fittings are components or connectors used in plumbing systems to help connect one pipe to another, redirecting or terminating the flow of liquid or gases. Pipe fittings come in different sizes, designs, and materials.

Here are common types of pipe fittings and their functions:

• Elbows: They are fittings used to alter/change the flow direction between two pipes. Elbows mainly come in two angles, i.e., 45 and 90 degrees.
• Tees: They feature a “T” shape with three holes (one inlet and two outlets) used to create branch connections.
• Couplings: These are fittings used to connect pipes of the same diameter in a straight line to help restore broken or leaking pipes.
• Adapters: They are used to connect pipes with different types of pipes and convert a pipe end into a male or female thread. Adapters are commonly used for PVC and copper pipes.
• Nipple: They are fittings with male threads on both ends and are used to connect/join two female threaded pipes or fittings.

Other types of pipe fittings include crosses, caps, valves, wyes, and flanges.
